Which enterprise VR headsets use pancake lenses?

The enterprise VR headsets that use Pancake Lenses are:

· The Meta Quest Pro

· Pico 4 Enterprise

· Particle VR Headset (3DOF)

Among the top players, Meta Quest Pro and Pico 4 Enterprise are the ones that use pancake lenses. Meta released the Quest Pro in October 2022, featuring improved hardware specifications, including a higher resolution display, wider field of view, and faster refresh rates.

On the other hand, the Pico 4 Enterprise Edition, designed by Pico Interactive, was open for pre-orders in November 2022. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor and offers 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF) tracking. It has a resolution of 2048 x 2048 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The PICO 4 Enterprise Edition is also equipped with a front-facing stereo camera for augmented reality (AR) applications, and it comes with a variety of enterprise-focused software and management tools.

Particle VR, launched in April 2022, is the chaser. Particle VR is the world’s first and only Pancake VR all-in-One headset with a 3DOF solution. Its features aim to provide comprehensive tools and capabilities for creating, managing, and distributing VR content, enabling developers to create immersive VR experiences more efficiently.

Software

Pico 4 Enterprise has commercial-focused features like kiosk mode, live streaming, sync mode, and remote device management.

The Meta Quest Pro supports meeting with coworkers in Horizon Workrooms. And Microsoft plans to bring various work and mixed-reality experiences to the Meta Quest Pro in 2023.

Particle VR includes VR content creation tools, device management capabilities, spatial audio, and over-the-air updates. These features provide comprehensive tools for creating, managing, and distributing VR content.

Use Cases

Meta Quest Pro is designed for work but is also good for gaming (as Meta CTO Bosworth reminds us in an Ask Me Anything moment on Instagram). Meta envisions Quest Pro as a virtual office where people can meet with coworkers in VR and a limited form of AR.

Pico 4 Enterprise is designed for professional enterprise applications. Pico 4 Enterprise offers a range of unique features designed specifically for commercial applications, such as kiosk mode, which lets users dive directly into an app, and live streaming mode. Additionally, remote device management is built in, and an enterprise app store is possible.

Particle is designed for enterprise use, especially in static scenarios (due to its limited 3DOF) such as VR touring, VR visual entertainment, K-12 education, etc. It also supports kiosk mode. Unlike Meta Quest PRO and PICO 4 Enterprise, the company offers OEM and ODM services.
